Five Truths -

Shakespeare's Truth and the Art of Directing

21st April till 31st October 2016

What are the differences between five of the most influential European theatre practitioners of the 20th century? How would Constantin Stanislavski, Antonin Artaud, Bertolt Brecht, Jerzy Grotowski, Peter Brook stage Ophelia’s famous mad scene in Shakespeare´s Hamlet?

Katie Mitchell directed and filmed this scene with the same actress in the artistic styles of these five visionary theatre directors.

The Theatermuseum shows a „touring installation“ of the Victoria and Albert Museum (
www.vam.ac.uk) on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.

This installation has been made possible with the generous support of the British Council and Demmer's Teehaus.
