Special donation project - Dulcitone

The Dulcitone is a fascinating object; a pronounced extraordinary and remarkable keyboard instrument, for a long time misleadingly called a "tuning fork piano" or "metal reed piano".

This instrument was used by Richard Teschner for a couple of his plays, for instance Weihnachtsspiel (Nativity Play) or Das Farbklavier (The Colour Piano) and came into the museum's collection as part of Teschner's bequest. The Dulcitone is a predecessor, in fact the prototype of a keyboard, produced in Glasgow, Scotland, between 1880 and 1930.

In order to be able to listen to this instrument again in Weihnachtsspiel (Nativity Play) it needs an extensive restauration. Besides a thorough cleaning of all external and inner parts, the repair of the cracks in the wooden resonator, the entire set of keys needs to be corrected in order to avoid side noises. Moreover, the pedal pivot shaft needs to be amended, the recuperating springs of the keys must to be reinforced and the right rib, cracked on both sides, has to be repositioned and glued. For these repairs an amount of € 1.710,- is required.

Adopt a unique puppet!

One of the most valued treasures in our museum is Richard Teschner's "Figure Mirror". Teschner created a complex dramatic artwork with his revolutionary figurine theatre, for which he developped an entirely new expressive puppet type.

The magical and yet very fragile rod-puppets need extremely time consuming restorative care. Support us to keep this collection in the best possible state and adopt one of our puppets as your personal protégé.
